New photos / Homeward Bound!

Well, it's been 2 1/2 weeks and I can honestly say that this parenting thing is a breeze.

Or I'd be able to say that if it were opposite day, which I don't think it is.

The little pooper was on a nice, 3-hour schedule of eating, being diapered and sleeping (all of his own volition!) until a few days ago, at which point he decided that it's more fun to be awake and squawking incessently and inconsolably than asleep and looking angelic.

I think he's started his "3-week" growth spurt, which just means, as far as I can tell, that he's extra cranky and hungry all the time. BUT, we did have a nice hour of awake and happily alert time this morning, which almost makes the following 7 hours ok. Mumble grumble. Mommy needs a nap.

But Vaughn's growing and changing so much by the day - he's focusing his eyes on us a lot more, and although he's not smiling on demand yet, he's definitely got a great random smile!

Hey, we're heading to Ottawa tomorrow! I'm very much looking forward to introducing Vaughn to my parents (and two extra pairs of hands...) and to everyone that can make it to Chez Lucien on Saturday. We're hoping to fulfill our craving for The Works at some point, too, so for those that we don't see on Saturday, we'll send an email about the second opportunity to see us!

Either way, it will be a bunch of firsts: the first time Vaughn's been on a plane, the first time I attempt to nurse in public (I assume he'll have to eat at some point), the first time I cry on an airplane (aside from July's PS I Love You fiasco, I mean), etc. Let's hope that the passengers around us are understanding/deaf/like babies!

Proud to Introduce...

Our sweet prince, Vaughn Michael, was born on Friday, January 9th at 6:45 am, weighing in at a whopping 7 lbs, 3 oz, and measuring a massive 20 inches!

(preliminary results from the Baby Pool show that Noel won by a very eerily accurate series of guesses...)

So, yep, 32 hours of labour, 5 of them "active". No epidural, and don't tell me that morphine does anything, because it doesn't.

But I don't really want to talk about that. Kaff.

But little Vaughn is doing great! He has an amazingly fluffy and full head of dark hair, beautiful blue eyes, and a sweet demeanor (during daylight hours). I'm on the road to recovery, and here are some pics, since we have to show off our Very Handsome Son to the world!

Thanks for everyone's best wishes - I'll try to keep this site updated with not only what Vaughn is up to, but also what is new in our lives, non-baby-related.

Ha ha! Just kidding! Our lives are over! ;D

Week 40: No baby yet / bored to tears

It's a very, very good thing that I decided to work up to the "last minute". What with today being my due date (Happy Due Date to Meeeee) and no baby in sight* (well, not from this angle, anyway), I'm bored out of my skull. And it's only Day 3 of maternity leave.

Mr. Working-From-Home is hard at work on his laptop at the kitchen table, which means that he can't play with me, aside from bringing me a big, dark-blue towel and telling me to bring it with me wherever I go in the house, to sit on, just in case. (he even graciously tucked it under me in bed last night - on top of the dark sheets and plastic mattress cover that we already have in place!)

The house is clean, the room is ready, the freezer's stocked with soups, stews, and possibly too much baking, the bags are packed, and everyone else I know is at work (of course), so I'm counting down the minutes till we go to the gym at lunch, which will be the high point of my day, unless the leg wax I have booked for this afternoon is more fun than usual.

Most of the fun of going to the gym, of course, is the looks on the men's faces. The women all smile at me, or approach me with words of encouragement and support. But the men, hoo boy. They look like they either want to run away or just cry, especially when I do squats. Which is sort of why I do them. Is that wrong?

Note: I caught my reflection last week, and if I saw someone that looked like me doing squats, I would stop me!

The belly (hopefully the final photo), at right**, shows off my impressive physique. My measurements are now 36 (woo-hoo!) - 37 - 35. Hot. And I've gained about 26 lbs, depending on the day and how much water this camel is retaining.

*It's a good thing, too, since the baby, had it arrived yesterday, would have been named Epiphany Tiffany, even if it was a boy. I'm still hoping for a Punctual Pubert or a Deadline-savvy Dilda.

Nursery Update: Now with Jungle Animals!

A wee little lion and a giraffe......an elephant and some trees... ...and a tiger and a hippo all help to tie in all the colours of the room and make it perfect!

All together now: Awwwww....
